About the IAPP

Nerea Palacio is an international data privacy, cybersecurity and technology lawyer who has developed her career in the technology and legal sectors for more than 16 years.

Nerea is currently acting as the Global Privacy Counsel of HERE Technologies, a multinational company specialized in location data, mapping technologies and automotive services.

In her present role, Nerea leads the privacy and cybersecurity legal function at HERE, where she serves as key subject matter expert and advisor on data privacy, regulatory and cybersecurity issues, and is responsible for HERE’s corporate privacy strategy.

Before joining HERE, she served as the EMEA and Canada DPO for Hitachi Vantara, the digital infrastructure, data management and analytics subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd. and, previously, as data privacy, governance risk and compliance attorney at top-class law firms in Spain.

As a dedicated and motivated, certified privacy and compliance senior counsel, she was named Hitachi Vantara’s best lawyer, shortlisted for ACC European Counsel Award as Compliance Innovator of the Year 2020 and recognized with a Platinum award in 2019 by Hitachi Vantara’s Executive Committee for successfully completing its GDPR Implementation Plan.

In general, she enjoys keeping herself constantly aware of technology’s trends and developments and understanding how they may impact the current established legal framework, something that she finds extremely interesting and fulfilling.
