Peter Hegel, CIPP/US
Peter Hegel (CIPP/US) is an associate with Perkins Coie LLP and counsels clients on protection of personally identifiable information (PII) and infrastructure, as well as other issues arising under domestic data security and privacy laws and regulations, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA).
A Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), Peter advises clients on incident response issues, including identification of gaps in security, addressing compliance obligations, coordinating with forensic investigators, and notifying consumers affected by breach incidents. Peter has experience advising clients on industry-specific standards for compliance with relevant laws, including the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCIDSS). He also counsels clients on international data privacy matters, including the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Peter has completed several successful secondments, including with a major social networking company and a major online retailer. As such, Peter has extensive experience working closely with in-house legal and compliance departments in delivering pragmatic and timely advice to cross-functional groups across the business.
