About the IAPP

Phillip Ward is the Lead of Privacy Engineering at Canva. He is a privacy technology specialist, with over a decade of experience spanning software engineering, data science, and computer science. Phillip manages an engineering team at Canva tasked with designing and building the privacy-enabling infrastructure of this fast growing tech company. This team works on innovative solutions to automating risk and audit functions, reducing the cognitive load of employees when building compliant systems, and empowering customers to control their information and experience. 

Phillip has worked across industries, including hydrological modelling, neuroscience, financial services, physiology, and technology. He was awarded a PhD for his work in the field of biomedical imaging, and earned bachelor's degrees in Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science. He is certified as an Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) and completed the Certificate in Privacy Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
