Principal

David is an Australian-based lawyer and consultant who focuses on privacy, freedom of information, data governance and security, advising on broader administrative law and regulatory issues, as well as helping with Lean-Six-Sigma Greenbelt projects. At present, he runs his own practice, CicaData, but was a 10+ year 'veteran' of NBN, Australia’s National Broadband Network, where he worked in a commercial role with NBN’s Chief Data Office as Executive Advisor – Data Governance. Before that, he was NBN’s General Counsel - FOI, Privacy & Knowledge Management. Canadian-born, David graduated from McGill Law School in Montréal and was called to the Ontario Bar before migrating to Sydney, Australia. A Member of the NSW Law Society Privacy and Data Law Committee, David has a keen interest in data ethics and consumer data rights, along with developing practical, strategic solutions for government, business and the broader community in rapidly evolving regulatory and commercial environments. He also has a 'side hustle' as a speech and screenwriter.
