About the IAPP

Maarten is Data Protection Officer of the European Central Bank (ECB) since 2019 where he leads a team of privacy professionals advising and independently overseeing all privacy matters. Previously he worked at the United Nations (UN) and European Police Office (Europol). Maarten regularly teaches about data protection and privacy in the public sector.

Maarten holds a LL.M in International Public Law (cum laude) from the University of Edinburgh (UK) and a Master in Law (magna cum laude) from the University of Antwerp (Belgium) and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional - Europe (CIPP/E), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and ISO27001 Certified ISMS Lead Auditor.
