Vice President of Data Management and Privacy Oversight; Chief Privacy Officer

Marc Placzek is the Chief Privacy Officer at PayPal where he leads a global team that develops and operationalizes PayPal’s data governance and privacy program. Before assuming the role of Chief Privacy Officer, he played a pivotal role in the creation and expansion of PayPal’s international privacy program. Marc is passionate about leveraging the power of data and new technologies in a user friendly and regulatory compliant way. He is a lawyer and privacy compliance executive with a proven track record of Data Protection Officer appointments and Privacy Counsel roles in Europe and Asia Pacific. As a firm believer that data privacy and driving business goals through data is not mutually exclusive but rather complimentary, he works on the intersection of privacy and data governance to ensure the highest degree of data hygiene, ethical data use and compliance with international rules. He organizes and is a voting member of PayPal’s Privacy Business Advisory Group (BAG). He also is a member of the Enterprise Data Council and the Enterprise Risk Management Committee. Marc looks back on more than 15 years of legal and compliance experience with a focus on data and privacy. Prior to joining PayPal in 2016, Marc was a consultant at a privacy/data protection consultancy in Germany, advising global companies and rolling out privacy programs. He also worked as a Privacy Advisor in the legal department of the European Patent Office at its headquarters in Munich, Germany, and at an Australian law firm based in Sydney. Marc has a law degree from the University of Munich, Germany, and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E).
