Julie Snyder, AIGP, CIPP/G, CIPP/US, CIPM, CIPT
Julie Snyder is a Principal and Privacy Architect at MITRE, a private, not-for-profit corporation that operates federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs). She leads privacy for MITRE’s center that supports the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and provides privacy and cybersecurity risk management and engineering advice to spans Federal agencies in healthcare and public health, transportation, intelligence, homeland security, law enforcement, defense, aid, and commerce, and critical infrastructure industries in the U.S. She also works with other nations on cybersecurity and privacy capacity building efforts.
Ms. Snyder actively contributes to security and privacy risk management standards, including National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) practice guides, NIST Special Publications (SP 800-37, Rev 2, SP 800-53 Rev 5 and 53B, SP 800-150), and NIST Cybersecurity and Privacy Framework Profiles, as well as the Committee on National Security Standards (CNSS) instruction for protecting personally identifiable information (PII) in information systems (CNSSI No. 1253 Privacy Overlays), International Standards Organization (ISO) privacy standards, and privacy and cybersecurity guidance for the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI).
Ms. Snyder was a key contributor to MITRE's Privacy Engineering Framework, which puts the notions of Privacy by Design into practice, as well as a co-author of the Data Privacy and Data Security chapters of MITRE’s Modern Data Strategy.
Ms. Snyder has served as a speaker at NIST’s Cybersecurity Framework workshops and facilitator at Privacy Framework workshops. She is also a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Professional Faculty. Prior to joining MITRE in 2009, she was a Manager at PwC where she supported Fortune 500 companies in various industries with improving their cybersecurity programs and later led the Federal Privacy Practice. Ms. Snyder earned her BBA in Information and Operations Management (MIS) from Texas A&M University and holds the CIPM, CIPP/G, CIPP/US, and CIPT certifications.
