Magnolia Mansourkia Mobley, CIPP/US
Magnolia Mansourkia Mobley is the founder of boutique consulting firm LegalMatters, LLC where she helps clients with legal, privacy and cyber security policy needs. Focusing primarily on venture backed, small/medium sized technology businesses, she designs practical legal and data protection programs as a mechanism to fuel growth, increase brand trust and maximize brand value. She specializes in establishing legal programs, risk mitigation strategies and board advisory services. Her data protection expertise includes emerging issues related to artificial intelligence, IoT devices, autonomous vehicles and the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
Prior to her current role, she served as General Counsel, Chief Privacy Officer and Corporate Secretary for mobile software developer Carrier iQ where she led all legal functions and served as Secretary for the board of directors. She led the organization’s litigation, transactions, compliance, intellectual property, public policy and risk management needs.
As Chief Privacy Officer, she created a comprehensive data protection program, including policy implementation, product development, incident response and legislative/public policy matters. She led the development and patenting privacy interfaces designed to achieve transparency and innovation in consumer choice features. Her customer centric approach was directly correlated to and widely credited with increasing customer engagement and revenue growth.
Previously, Ms. Mobley served as Vice President, Assistant General Counsel and Chief Privacy Counsel for Verizon Communications where she was responsible for privacy strategy and compliance across Verizon’s diverse business units. Her leadership was instrumental in helping Verizon repeatedly secure a coveted place among the top 20 companies in the "Most Trusted Companies for Privacy" - as ranked by independent TRUSTe/Ponemon Institute surveys. Ms. Mobley has a proven track record in the development of best in class consumer privacy programs including crafting compliance tools, implementing policies and best practices and advocacy before state and federal regulators on privacy, security and other Internet policy matters.
Ms. Mobley is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), a frequent speaker on legal compliance in the technology space and cutting edge privacy issues. She is a member of the bar in Maryland and the Fourth Circuit.
She lives in Great Falls, Virginia with her husband and three daughters.
