Bronwyn Furse, CIPM
Bronwyn is a partner with Thomson Geer. She is a specialist intellectual property and competition and consumer lawyer, with extensive experience in privacy, data protection and commercialisation.
Bronwyn is the trusted advisor on privacy issues to many large national and multi-national groups spanning a range of industries including financial services, health and medical, ICT, business intelligence, energy and resources, manufacturing, airport and automotive, as well as to Government. Many of her clients operate in regulated industries, and she is adept at providing targeted privacy advice to her clients having regard to those frameworks and industry practice.
Her privacy practice includes drafting privacy documentation, advising clients on compliance issues, privacy law reform, offshore data disclosure, cloud services and data protection and assisting clients to handle data breaches and privacy access requests and complaints. In addition, Bronwyn has a depth of expertise in advising on, and drafting documentation to implement, complex data licensing arrangements involving personal information, including cross-jurisdictional arrangements and arrangements involving public and private sector parties.
Bronwyn is often instructed to assist clients to manage their privacy compliance at an organisational level, including identification of privacy risks associated with new projects and procurement activities, and assisting in the design and implementation of those projects and procurement activities to minimise the associated privacy risks. She is also routinely called upon to design and conduct privacy audits and compliance programs for clients, and to present on privacy law reform.
Bronwyn is actively involved in various professional licensing and intellectual property organisations, and was
recognised by Australasian Lawyers 'Rising Star' awards as having an "outstanding reputation as an IP lawyer".
