About the IAPP

León has more than five years of experience in the legal profession. He specializes in data protection, intellectual property, and consumer protection and advertising.

León’s experience in consumer protection and advertising includes the review of advertising materials, drafting of promotion’s terms and conditions, handling of image rights issues and unfair competition. When it comes to intellectual property, León has extensive knowledge assisting companies in all aspects in connection with the registration, protection, and defense of their intellectual property rights, as well as the management of smuggling and counterfeiting cases. In addition, he has assisted companies in the implementation of the necessary procedures and documentation for the management of data as well as the appropriate defense before the Data Protection Agency (PRODHAB) in connection with these matters.

León joined BLP as an associate in 2015, after the merger with Weinstok Abogados, where he began working in 2006 as a legal assistant. In addition, he has worked as an examiner at the National Intellectual Property Institute (INAPI) in Santiago, Chile.

León obtained his law degree from Universidad de Costa Rica in 2010 and has a master’s degree in commercial law from Universidad Católica of Chile since 2013, where he also obtained a diploma in intellectual property. Furthermore, León has completed several programs on data protection and has a bachelor’s degree in administration and marketing from Universidad Latina of Costa Rica since 2006.

He has been a member of the Inter-American Intellectual Property Association (ASIPI), and a member of the Data Protection Committee of ASIPI, and is the author of several articles on intellectual property and advertising law. He is also the coordinator of the Intellectual Property Commission of the Costa Rican Bar Association, which intends to organize programs on different intellectual property areas, arrange events in connection with the most relevant topics, and analyze different bills.

León currently lives in San José, Costa Rica, with his wife.
