Stefano Fantin, CIPP/E
Stefano, LL.M., CIPP/E, serves as the Global Data Protection Officer and principal advisor on cyber and information-related regulatory affairs at Traton Financial Services, part of the Volkswagen Group. His responsibilities encompass EU and global regulations on cybersecurity, open data, and artificial intelligence, including the AI Act, Data Act, DORA, and NIS2.
In addition, Stefano teaches privacy and cybersecurity law as part of the Master's program in Operators of Essential Services at the University of Paris-Sud / Institut Mines-Télécom. He is also a guest lecturer for the Master's in EU Law and Policies at the LUISS School of Government in Rome.
Previously, Stefano held key positions at Europol, EDPS, the UK Government, and the Center for IT and IP Law (CITIP). During his tenure at CITIP, he advised major organizations—including the European Commission, national governments, regulatory authorities, and critical infrastructure operators—on privacy, law enforcement cooperation, national security, and cybersecurity policies.
Between 2018 and 2021, Stefano contributed as an Affiliated Researcher at CEPS (Center for European Policy Studies), a Brussels-based think tank, where he focused on public policy challenges related to cyber defense and artificial intelligence.
Stefano holds law degrees from the University of Trieste (Italy) and Tilburg University (Netherlands). He has published extensively in scientific journals on cyber law, privacy, and security studies. He was recently included in the pool of independent external experts for the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and is currently part of the ISPI’s Think Tank Under 40 Leaders program.
