About the IAPP

Puneet Matai is a seasoned leader in data and AI governance with over 20 years of experience driving digital transformation in global organizations. Currently serving as the Data and AI Governance Lead at Rio Tinto Commercial, he drives data & AI governance framework to enhance quality, maturity, and innovation while ensuring compliance and mitigating risks.

Puneet’s prior roles include leading data privacy strategies at UOB and enterprise data governance at Santander Bank, where he resolved critical data issues. He has also contributed to academia as a course instructor at Columbia University and serves on editorial boards of international journals.

Puneet's academic background includes a Bachelor of Technology in Software Systems from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in 2004 and a Master of Science in Applied Analytics from Columbia University in 2019. He is an active IAPP member and is a current KnowledgeNet Co-Chair. He is a Certified Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (IAPP AIGP), Certified Data Management Professional (DAMA CDMP) and also Certified in Cloud Data Management Capabilities (EDM CDMC v1)
