Kirsten started her career as an IP and commercial contracting lawyer in private practice in 2000, changing to corporate law in 2006. Kirsten still is registered to the Dutch Bar as a lawyer. As from March 2018 she moved inhouse. Kirsten currently is CPO at Signify transforming the privacy office into a digital compliance office. Part of this is setting up and implementing the AI Governance framework. Before Signify Kirsten worked at Shell for 8 years. She respectively was general counsel for the European e-mobility business (2018-2022) and joined the global CPO office as senior legal counsel. There she was leading the team of AI lawyers that provides advice to the business on responsible use of AI and at the same time participates in building a global AI compliance framework. Kirsten has 10+ years of experience in both Mergers and Acquisitions and data privacy. Her focus since 2018 is data privacy in renewables and energy solutions globally. Kirsten is part of the editorial staff of a Dutch jurisprudence journal for data protection since 2016 (SDU). Kirsten is also part of the editorial staff and author for a Dutch online portal on data protection law (SDU). She participates in various data privacy policy and advocacy groups at local and European level.
