2024 continuing education

Mandatory Continuing Legal Education

Mandatory Continuing Legal Education is a requirement of many U.S. state bar associations and applies to attorneys and legal professionals licensed to practice law in jurisdictions within the U.S. We are requesting live, in-person accreditation for this event in many jurisdictions with MCLE, and up to 24 total MCLE credits are possible. Please review the number of credits we were approved up to within your state.

Answers to common MCLE related questions can be found here.

To get MCLE credit:

  1. Throughout the conference: For each session you attend that you would like credit for, have your name badge scanned when you enter. MCLE credit eligibility is directly connected to an attendee having their name badge scanned. If your badge is not scanned, you will not be eligible for MCLE credits for that session. New Jersey and New York licensed attorneys will also need their badges scanned by an IAPP staff member when leaving each session.
  2. Post-conference: Action required for attorneys seeking MCLEs from the IAPP Global Privacy Summit 2024 conference. All Summit attorneys looking to receive MCLE credits for the conference will need to fill out the online MCLE credit application form, once the conference has concluded. You must complete the online MCLE credit application form prior to midnight on the deadline of 18 April 2024 if you want credits for attending the IAPP Global Privacy Summit 2024. All attendees will be receiving an email on 2 April with the subject line: “IAPP Global Privacy Summit 2024 Attendance - Attorneys, MCLE Action is Required”, a link to the online MCLE credit application form, along with further information, can also be found within this email correspondence. Once the credit application window has closed, the IAPP will contact you with further information on reporting MCLE credits to your state(s) of licensure. Most MCLE states allow attorneys to self-report their own credits. IAPP will defer to the attorney to report and pay for their own credits in states where it is optional. IAPP is only responsible for reporting fees in states where the sponsor is required to report attendance and pay fees. If you have additional questions, please contact your state bar or the IAPP at: mcle@iapp.org.

Please note: If you are licensed in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan and South Dakota you are not required to maintain MCLE credits and therefore do not need to submit an online MCLE credit application form. Be sure to check your state bar MCLE regulations, as some jurisdictions do not accredit sponsor programs but require MCLEs, so attorneys will need to self-file.

IMPORTANT: Each state has its own MCLE rules and regulations, including its own definition of MCLE. As a result, certain IAPP programs may not receive credit in some states.

MCLE Ethics Credits: are eligible if you attend the designated IAPP-recognized ethics session titled: “Managing Legal Ethics in Uncertain Legal Times.” Due to the nature of state bars differing regulations, your state of licensure may recognize more sessions on the program to be eligible for ethics credit alongside this one. Alternatively, this session may not be approved within your state of licensure altogether. The IAPP cannot promise ethics credit to all attorneys in attendance. However, we are more than happy to confirm if your state of licensure has approved this session for ethics.

International attorneys attending U.S. events:
The IAPP can only offer pre-approved MCLE credits to U.S.-based lawyers. If you are an international attorney, please contact us at mcle@iapp.org and we would be happy to provide your badge scans from the conference, as well as a certificate of attendance. However, we are unable to advise on how to self-apply for MCLE’s within your country.
