The Appeals Advisory Board is vital to IAPP certification programs, serving as the connection between our staff and credential holders.

APPEALS ADVISORY BOARD EXPECTATIONS

  • Serve a two-year term.
  • Maintain an active IAPP membership.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled meetings and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Keep information shared among advisory board members confidential.
  • Act with integrity and professionalism in advisory board duties.
  • Advocate for the IAPP.
  • Embrace and promote new voices and diversity in background, perspective, gender, race, professional roles and companies throughout your role.
  • Meet as needed to review and rule on appeals from IAPP certification candidates and credential holders.
  • Attend Appeals Board meetings and serve in roles as requested.
  • Assure impartiality while reviewing and ruling on appeals. Members must recuse themselves for actual or apparent conflicts of interest.

 

Selection Criteria

Boards are selected with the goal of creating a balanced working group based on experience level, industry sector, geographic location and area of expertise. Considerations for selection include:

  • Required to hold a CIPP, CIPM and/or CIPT credential in good standing (maintained throughout term).
  • Professional experience and knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, best practices and theory related to the scope of the certification as outlined in each designation's Body of Knowledge.
  • Length of membership plus commitment to and involvement with the IAPP.
  • Cannot be a member of the IAPP training faculty, Certification Advisory Board or Exam Development Board, or served on one of these boards in the past two years.

  • Decisions, actions and opinions expressed by advisory board members are a reflection of their role as an IAPP volunteer, and not solely as a member or privacy and data protection professional.
